LGD-4033 is a nonsteroidal, oral inhibitor of androgen production. It was developed by Ligand Pharmaceuticals as an adjunct treatment for prostate cancer. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of both wild-type and mutant forms of the human isoforms 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 5 (17βHSD5). In clinical trials, it has been shown that this drug reduces serum levels of dihydrotestosterone by approximately 85% in patients with prostate cancer.

Dosing And Usage Schedule

LGD-4033 is typically dosed at 10mg per day. After initial administration, the dose can be increased by 5mg every two weeks until a satisfactory response is achieved. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 25mg and the cycle duration should not exceed six months. For patients who fail to respond satisfactorily to an adequate trial of LGD-4033 at any dose level, treatment with this drug should be interrupted for one week before attempting to increase the dose again.
